if you want to make your own bibtex style file (the way the citations
appears in the text and in the references) you can use:

/usr/share/texmf/doc/latex/custom-bib/makebst.dvi
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/custom-bib/makebst.tex

(the path may be different) which is in the tetex distribution.
It is an easy to use program!
