The sgmltools version you have is used only to translate Linuxdoc files. For DocBook 
you need
to install sgmltools-lite version >= 3.0, jade, jadetex, etc. Note that the latex 
produced by
jade (called by sgmltools) is specific to jadetex.

To convert SGML to real LaTeX, you can use the XSL stylesheets by Ramon Casellas
(http://www.infres.enst.fr/~casellas). However, you need to have your file in XML 
rather than
in SGML (it is not a problem) and you need to install the XML DocBook DTD, the related 
XSL
stylesheets and an XSLT (xt/xp or xalan).
