I was solving someone-else's problem, so not my choice. Anyway, more modern does not mean more appropriate. RCS is most easy and one does not have to deal with repositories (I actually prefer to use it for small-scale lyx documents myself). But the moment you need to track pictures, bibliography etc, you need more powerful tool. SVN is best when you want collaborate and enforce locking for (childerns of) the document. Git allows you to have easy local repo without any need of server hassle. So it really depends what is the particular usecase... Pavel
