Thanks, Matan. It might be helpful to know if you can reproduce if you
turn previews off. Even if you don't use them much, I still wonder if
    they could be causing problems.

Hello Scott, I've managed to reproduce this, it has no relation to the previews as i tested it with and without them (in the preferences i've disabled them for the comparison), what causes the memory leak seems to be the background changing (at least on my windows 11), the background is set to cycle photos from my gallery, and every time a background image changes LyX freeze, adds more RAM usage and then returns to working. I'm adding a recording of my screen <https://streamable.com/b4lr6d> when that happens.

Hope this help,
Matan
This is exactly what was happening in my case. I was using a theme where the OS (Windows 10)  background picture and colors change automatically every 3 hrs. Initially, I could not figure out that the freeze+memory leak is caused by the MS Windows background and color changes. Then, just by chance, I was able reproduce the leak, when I change the MS Windows theme color manually. I think you can also re-generate it easily: Open LyX. Go to Windows settings. Go to Themes. Change the color of the theme. Observe LyX and memory usage from Task Manager.
