it's the same with IEEEtran.cls, which is much more often used
than newlfm.cls.
Anyway, from my point of view, babel is a package and a
package belongs to the document and not to the global
settings (preferences) of the document processor. I for myself
would prefer a solution like the one for geometry, which is also
used by a lot of docs and also part of the doc and not the global
settings. means for babel a button on/off depending to the text!
