Is there any particular reason this isn't automatic? Why do I have to tell
LyX not to use Babel when the document language equals the default
language?
BTW, your description of the lyxrc variable doesn't match what I interpret
the name to mean -- a better name based on your description might be
"\language_use_babel_with_default" or "\language_use_babel_always"
Is there something deeper going on? We never used to do any of this sort
of stuff did we? I mean before "default" was removed and before we had
the kind of multilingual support we do now.
