KDE has a "international keyboard tool". Everytime I tried to use it, I screwed up my keyboard completely, but my colleagues use it sucessfully to switch between different keyboard layouts. This could explain why a kde upgrade affected the dead keys, but I too do not see any reason why "LyX qt needs KDE". Georg
