I guess this is the well-known problem with qt-immodule, see http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1830 The problem is that SuSE 9.3 ships a qt version which has builtin immodule support, and that LyX has no support yet. The same problem also applied to other apps (as KOffice). The only solution is that someone tries and implements it. > Is there an easy workaround or am I simply too stupid? > Hoping that the second assumption is the wrong one - It is, but I think there's no easy workaround: 1. enter the accents via ERT (LaTeX -- see samar's mail) or the minibuffer (e.g. "Alt-x accent-tilde n" to get à [1]). 2. get an unpatched qt version and recompile LyX 3. use the xforms frontend [1] you can also add frequent characters to the bind file. Copy your bind file (e.g. cua.bind) from /usr/share/lyx/bind/ to ~/.lyx/bind/ and add the line \bind "F12" "accent-tilde n" etc. HTH, JÃrgen
