LyX 1.4.3 svn - class of document : book - language : French. The table of content appear in the LyX document when it does not in the transcoding pdflatex. I used Chapter* but it is not supposed to appear in the TOC with this class of doc. So I replaced Chapter* by Section* which is supposed to appear. Effectively it appears inside the LyX file but not in the pdf doc through pdflatex. Sorry the title "table des matieres" (toc) appears with nothing below. Any clue
