ok, we found it
   latex test.tex   worked fine
   dvips -o test.ps test.dvi   worked fine
   ps2pdf13 test.ps test.pdf produced error: "invalidfont in findfont" and 
   many  "nostringval"
it is the \mathptmx which causes the error
I can reproduce it if I set in a new document the font to "times": then I get
only a blank page.
What I don't understand: I removed Miktex and installed it new. So where to
search?
