Maybe you don't have the nomencl package installed on your Linux box, or your nomencl version is too old?
Finally, a solution. Yes the problem was that the nomencl package was old. I have ensured that the nomencl.sty file was updated. However, the nomencl.ist file wasn't update. I believe that Lyx uses this to run a command like "makeindex masterfile.*glo* -s nomencl.ist -o masterfile.gls". I just made sure that I put the latest version of the nomencl.ist file in the right location using the following command:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Nomenclature]# cp nomencl.ist /usr/share/texmf/makeindex/
cp: overwrite `/usr/share/texmf/makeindex/nomencl.ist'? y
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Nomenclature]# texhash
texhash: Updating /usr/share/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/share/texmf-config/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /usr/share/texmf-var/ls-R...
texhash: Updating /var/lib/texmf/ls-R...
texhash: Done.

Jürgen, thank you very much for all your assistance - much appreciated!

I have just installed Lyx 1.5.2 on two computers, one running Windows XP
and another running Linux (Fedora 7). On Windows, I have used the
nomenclature functionality that comes with Lyx 1.5.2. It works fine.
However, when I open the same Lyx document on the Linux PC and export to
PDF in the same way as the Windows PC I don't see the nomeclature printed.

Is there something that needs to be done for the nomeclature to be
printed on Linux? One of the reasons why I use Lyx was to get platform
independent word processing.
