Then you don't have a full LaTeX installation. As you are a new user, I
recommend to uninstall LyX completely and reinstall it using the small
Version of this installer athat installs the latest version LyX 1.5.4:

Before you start to reinstall LyX, open an internet connection. The
installer will then automatically install all LaTeX-packages needed by
LyX - this could last 20 minutes depending on your Internet speed, but
then you have all packages you need.
- I try to change the Document class to a simpler one, Book for example, but
it still does not want to produce any output and yields the following
message "LaTeX Error: File `floatflt.sty' not found".
This package has been removed from MiKteX due to license issues. We
fixed this in LyX 1.5.4, another reason to reinstall LyX using the
latest version.
