I have exactly same problem.
I have outline panel open, opensuse and kde 4.1.x
While I am typing lyx became frozen but I get save my work with F2 key without
any problem. Then I kill lyx and run again but if I have not reset the computer
the problem appears more quickly.
I have not report this bug because I have several problems with lyx 1.6.x that
appears after several hours of work (that I reported) that I not had with any
previous version of lyx and I am not sure that is a lyx problem or a problem in
my hard.
