I tired your advice adding the following to classicthesis-preamble.sty: \newcommand{\myTitleLine1}{Brassicaceae: from origin to recent days\xspace} \newcommand{\myTitleLine2}{Taxonomy, ecology and polulation studies\xspace} \newcommand{\myTitle}{\myTitleLine1 \myTitleLine2} I am probably doing something bad... but where???
It's my fault, sorry. Commands, so it seems, should not contain digits. Just rename \myTitleLine1 to \myTitleLineA, and so on.
In this case, you could have had considered using \myTitle and \mySubtitle, hm?
We've just released a new version of ClassicThesis template. Its configuration does not depend on classicthesis-preamble.STY any more, but on classicthesis-config.tex. Many people had problems with the .sty. The config file is also much 'cleaner' now. Give it a try, and tell us your impressions.
