Welcome, Leslaw. If you hang around here, You'll see I'm new to LaTeX and LyX, too. I don't know about MikTeX, but TeXLive includes LyX. But LyX can be downloaded directly from the LyX website here <http://www.lyx.org/Download> There's a separate link for Windows, including XP. You'll be certain of getting the most up-to-date version, which may not the case with a TeX package.
