But in the ideal case, the compiler does exactly what you tell it to, and sometimes that can be shocking :-) For others: Basically declaring a pointer is informing the compiler that there's a level of indirection implied for that symbol, that is, a variable that can hold an address that points to another variable. You wanted no indirection, what you wanted was just to bind a symbol and type directly to an address. A simple extern char CSRX does that for you. -- John.
