Going to do this myself when my batteries show up.
I haven't dug into the M100 to see how easy/difficult desoldering should be, but one thing you might be able to do to make it easier usually is to snip out the battery first, then desolder and remove the remaining terminal pieces.
Less of a heatsink you are trying to get out when you tho that.
 
Also, if the old solder doesn't want to come out, adding a bit of new solder to the old can help make it easier to remove.

Replacement is relatively easy, provided that you have a good iron. There's a bit more heat load on those pads than the usual trace, so I use my 80-watt desoldering gun for these. Excessive heat does pose a threat to the batteries as well, but unless you're using a way-too-hot iron, or heating the joint for many many seconds, that shouldn't cause any damage.
