I haven't found that one either. The best I have found is to run my finger just above the keyboard itself and here what is spoken that way. It should current text is: (insert what it says here). I use the eyes free keyboard and don't have a problem with the capitalization of words but you can verify this is the case by going to the keyboard you have set under language and inputs as the default keyboard. I Have had problems with the samsung keyboard and though I have to turn the eyes-free keyboard on and off to enter text manually It works better for me in that respect. As far as checking by character, try the single motion slide two fingers up and down and stop at character for the reading level if it lets you change. then find the edit box and a single finger fast swipe or flick should speak character. I never got this to work but maybe it will work for you.

You are right. That’s exactly what happened and the solution you suggested was also what actually fixed it. When I realized I was getting update messages when tapping that same part of the screen, I then realized it was the notification bar. I deleted it and now everything is working fine. Any tips for typing password in fields? I thus far have not been able to do so successfully. The capitalization of letters is a problem, and I haven’t found a way to read what I have typed in a field by character to confirm whether it is correctly written. I have Talkback set to read out the characters in password fields. I had sighted help confirms that when typing without Talkback on, the first letter gets capitalized automatically but with Talkback on, one has to press the shift before pressing the first letter and that’s where it gets difficult knowing what’s been typed in the field.
thanks for your help and happy new year.

I think clearing notifications will erase if you haven't changed the gestures. You went into talkback gestures somehow and may have went to change one, even if no change, it thinks you did.

that's the best I can think of.

Thank you so much. I am now off playing with it.
Do you know how to fix this? I was messing with the phone yesterday and now on the home screen or when it turns on, it gives a message that Talkback gestures change – the place where it also announces the phone status.
Again, I could not thank you more.

did you turn touch to explore on?
if so a single finger explores the screen, a two finger split up moves down a list that doesn't fit on a page, a two finger split down moves you back up, a two finger swipe right turns back a page and a two finger split right turns the page forward. Double tapping launches the app your finger is on, a double tap and hold opens a menu or lets you drag the item to somewhere else on the page or to another page either left or right. Go into accessibility and turn on allow Google to download scripts to enhance web page accessibility. from the home screen, find and double tap the phone icon, tap menu, find and double tap call settings, find and double tap answer/end calls and double tap to check both power button to end calls and answer calls using the home button. Now when in a call, instead of locking the screen, you can hang up with a press of the power button and when a call comes in, tapping the home button answers it. a two split finger continuous up and down, or down and up changes reading modes. Google talk back gestures to get other talk back gestures to open notifications, read whole page, etc.

That is basically it, you will be good from there and can explore at will.

oh, if you haven't already done so, go to system settings and about phone, check for system updates and take them. Jelly bean is awesome. good luck and ask more when you need to.

Hello gang:
Thanks for all of the contributions on my previous post. I went ahead and grabbed the Galaxy S-III. this is my first touch-screen phone only and the learning curve is looking steep. Can anyone help with general usage of the phone: receiving calls, making calls, navigation, enough to get me going?
I had sighted assistance to turn Talkback on. so, I have speech.
Thanks.
