Hi Zack, It's supposed to stop the cursor from moving, basically. As well as not speaking new information out loud, it also keeps the cursor in place. It's pretty useful in Terminal if you want to read line by line manually, but if you want to read the output as it goes through, I still haven't found VoiceOVer to be that accommodating with large amounts of output.
