OK let's try and help out here. hmmmmmmm. scratches head....

Microsoft office is not voiceover friendly. I would recommend either iwork or 
openoffice for this.

A solution regarding your mailbox behaviour would be to remove the mail.prefs 
from the preferences folder under users. This is a last resort. bear with me so 
that I can look into this error.
