In the platform that cannot be named the curser announced what it just walked over, but in mac the curser announced what it's about to walk over. There's a setting in the vo utility which can be accessed with vo f8. so 1. access the utility with vo f8. 2. navigate to verbosity, then press the text tab, and it should be in that dialogue. 3. You want to change the option to Speak text to the right of the cursor When moving the cursor so you can have the cursor announce what it just walked over making the editing experience a lot more friendly.
