Hello David,

I always use the Finder in List view which allows sorting by date or anything 
else. To open a folder in List view, you can either do Cmd-Down Arrow or Cmd-o. 
Cmd-Up arrow takes you back to the parent folder.

I'm sorry, I can't relate this to Windows as I've never used Windows.
