Thanks Matthew, now I have the keyboard and soft keys sorted, I wonder if
you can tell me how do I do an update. I am told there are 2 updates
available but I do not know how to accept to update. I tried pressing enter
and it did not do anything then I tried moving about again and then voice
over was saying that I needed to restart after updates so I wondered if the
updates had actually been done.

Hello Eleanor. Go into preferences in the apple menu. Choose the keyboard
button. When in there select the keyboard tab and go over to where it says
use all f1,f2, etc as as standard function keys.checkbox and check it. if
it is unchecked it just means that you have to use the function key to the
left of the control key to do the secondary operations for the function
keys. When it is checked you use the function key to use the function keys
for the operations that are shown on the keys themselves. Hope this helps.
