Hello Alberto,

I’ve had good success with both the older ABBYY FineReader Express and the
recently released ABBYY FineReader Pro (FRP). I find most buttons and other
controls to be properly accessible with VO. I also find the workflow to be
fairly intuitive. I am running the latest version of FRP on a 2013 MBA with
scans coming over Wi-Fi from a Canon PIXMA MX922. In the last few months FRP
has successfully scanned and converted a few thousand pages of snail mail,
bills, books, and even the (sadly inaccurate) fortune from a fortune cookie. I
have no problems scanning from either the Canon’s flatbed or it’s sheet-feeder,
and even the sheet-feeder’s duplex function has worked seamlessly. Converting
digital files is also a straightforward process. While I haven’t actually timed
it, my impression is the OCR process is quicker in FRP than it was in FR
Express. FRP runs the OCR process locally and is one of the few applications
that will actually cause my MBA’s fan to kick into high gear. If I know I’m
going to be performing a big OCR process, such as converting a 500 page PDF
file or scanning and converting a stack of bills, I will normally start the
process and leave the computer alone for a while while it’s doing the OCR magic.

Having said all that, I would of course strongly recommend getting hold of a
demo and testing to make sure it works with your Mac and scanner.

YMMV,
HTH,
Bryan
