I have no experience of this but I put your question into Google and the answer appears to be that there is already an inbuilt keyboard shortcut which should do this for you.
You might want to take a look at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4351 The article relates to Mountain Lion but it is worth a go to see if it still works under Mavericks.
