Hello Andy,

You should repair permissions after installing new software and after updates.

People who only use their Macs for simple tasks can get away with not repairing 
permissions, but as soon as you start using more complex programs such as 
Numbers, you’re going to encounter anomalous behaviour just as you have already 
done.

I’ve been a Mac user now for 18 years so I do have some idea what I’m talking 
about.
