Hello David,

I think I understand now what you are saying. You are expecting a new Finder
window to open when you press one of the “go to folder…” hotkey combos. Is that
correct? Is that how it behaved for you prior to Mavericks? If yes, do you
recall if there was a toggle in Finder Prefs prior to Mavericks that switched
between opening folders in a new window or opening them in the current window?
If there was, I must have always set it to open in the current window as that
is the behavior I seem to unconsciously expect, but I can certainly understand
being frustrated if the other option was taken away in Mavericks.

My memory is not the greatest, but I think I’ve always used the “go to folder…”
hotkeys to change the folder in the current window, which is the way it is
working for me under Mavericks. For example, if I start out by closing all
Finder windows leaving the Finder showing just the Desktop, and then follow the
steps you listed in your previous email, I get the following results:
1. GO to the Computer folder with command shift c. This opens a new Finder
window focussed on “Bryan’s Macbook Air,” aka the Computer.
2. Press command shift H to go to the Home folder. This changes the focus in
the current Finder window from Computer to Home.
3. Press command shift A to go to the Applications folder. This changes the
focus in the current Finder window from Home to Applications.

Note that on my system this process does not close any windows, it only changes
the selected folder within the current window. If I’ve opened multiple Finder
windows with the Command+N hotkey as I normally do, pressing a “go to folder”
hotkey in any of those only changes the folder in that particular window and
neither closes nor changes the other open Finder windows.

HTH,
Bryan
