Oh well thanks for the explanation Chris and at least I know now but that
said, I would not think there was much gain in having it there as opposed to
going to it via another route once it is open. Perhaps I am wrong there.

Hi,
It's not there because the app must be running for it to be in the menu
bar. If an app is in the dock, it means it's there for you to open. It's
like the taskbar over on the other platform.

The menu bar is now the extras menu as of Mountain Lion or Maverix,
can't remember. But it can be accessed with either VO-M-M or Control-F8
