My browsing experiences are very fast on OSX with IE, as usual I suppose the good folks at Wired (where the story originates) relied on the usual Apple bashers. As for comparison, I have a very well optimized AMD950 box running XPpro right beside my "slower" Mac. Web browsing in OS9 on the QuickSilver is also speedy, but I miss the stability of OSX every time I switch back, especially with a browser. If a page or website ever gives me the slightest grief it's Force Quit and restart, takes about 5 seconds flat, and my history is there right where I left it. I love it. And there are a lot of browsers out there besides Internet Explorer, and to a man they're faster than Microsoft's offering. Take your pick.
The only thing I would add to the buying discussion is that LaCie has a very nice USB bus-powered floppy drive that my local CompuSmart sells for $84. Floppies are not supported in OSX so you will have to boot into OS9 to get at them. -- Mac Canada is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
