I have to digress, and second James' recommendation for IP Net Monitor or
some other tool that will let you release the DHCP lease. I think there is a
free solution however.


There is a TCP/IP Options control panel that comes on the MacOS 8.6 CD or
was available separately. I think this is the OT Extras file you are looking
for which would allow you to set the Mac to not keep the lease on shutdown.
