I have played around with it for months now. I did go for a while with only the US and Typeit4Me layouts enabled, but it made no difference. Mysteriously, even though it was disabled, Canada CSA would reappear as the default layout on this computer.

I did not know about the keyboard function you describe. I do use XKeys, and it is configured to use the Apple Extended keyboard so that I can use F13, F14 and F15. Perhaps this is related to my problem, I'll try using the Apple US keyboard in the XKey settings and see if my problem disappears.

Thanks!

Something must be going on here. Does anyone have any idea how to select the U.S. keyboard layout and have it "stick". Could some sort of third party software I have installed or system setting I have chosen automatically change this setting?

Hi Donna:

Do you ever type Command + space, or Command + option + space ?

Not sure, but could it be that you have the Canada CSA and the US layouts checked in the International/Input Menu System control panel, and then when you type Command + space or Command + option + space, it switches to the next layout. This might explain the apparent random behavior.

I think that this behavior can be "turned off" by not having more than one layout checked or by unchecking the option in the control panel that does the switching. (International/Input menu/Options button.

Of course, if you have only the US layout checked in the first place then...never mind... : )

Hope this helps
