I find that I now always put the fact that I'm in Winnipeg (and no offense to our friends further south, I make sure to include Manitoba, Canada) under my name on the Swap List because I too have got tired of the cross border issues.... I'd be fine with using this list with a clearly marked and agreed upon tag so people can filter out such messages -- [FS] or [WTB] for example. I've also gotten into browsing the ehmac site, but find the email list sort of nice.... responses should be off-list I think.... The traffic is not so much that we'd be overwhelmed (famous last words).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a generic across-the-board rule for
all of Dan's lists? If that's the case, and because this list is a
relatively slow list, could we subscribers see if there is any strenuous objection to coming up with our own guidelines on posting for-sale items?

Were we to have that discussion, I'd vote for a trial period till the end
of 2005 to see how it goes.

I'd also vote for limiting for-sale/trade/barter/free items to no more than
once a week, per person, with no repeats for two weeks.

I'd also vote for multiple items being listed in one post to the list, not
one post per item.

I'd also vote for any responses to be offlist unless the reply would
benefit us all. (ie 'how much is shipping to me' shouldn't be asked onlist while 'which forms of payment will you accept' might interest more than the
one asking the question. That said, the original post should include
something about payment forms.)

I'd also vote for the subject line to include whichever keyword we choose ('sale' '$') so that those who aren't interested (and who don't strenuously object to the trial) can set their email filters to avoid the posts and the
threads.

I'd also vote for the items must be in Canada and shipped within Canada.
Absolutely no cross-border.

All the hypothetical votes based on a hypothetical discussion.
