OK, Windows 2000 has a LaserWriter IIg driver
included. When you went through the Add Printer
dialog, did you try creating it as a local printer
then click Create New Port and select AppleTalk
Printing Devices? That'll search for the printer
via Apple/LocalTalk.

The printer should have some version of PostScript
built in, right?

Something to try is the HP Install Network Printer
Wizard.

This may work without an HP JetDirect printserver,
but it will only work with TCP/IP or IPX/SPX
protocols.

Is there anything on OSX that'll tell you information
about the printer, such as its name, IP address etc?

When printing via TCP/IP, I've found that Windows is
happiest if the printer's IP is fixed, NOT assigned
with DHCP. If your workplace wants to not locally
assign fixed IPs but likes the control and non-
randomness of fixed IPs, the sysadmin can setup a
BootP service on a server and centrally assign fixed
IPs using the unique MAC address of each Ethernet
connected device. Ie, whenever any computer or printer
powers up and requests an IP, the BootP process will
ask for the MAC address then lookup the data on the
server and always assign the same IP.
