What kind of adapter do I need to connect an older Apple monitor with my G4?
None as far as I know. If your G4 is like mine it will have an Apple and a VGA socket on the back, for an either or scenario.
Mine seems to have only one VGA port Drew - nothing else :-(
Adapters to run old Mac standard monitors on a VGA card came as standard with all Power Macintosh G3 B&W systems. I dunno if you will be able to find one that works the way around you want it to on eBay but you will most likely find someone in the US with one somewhere on the LEM Swap list, probably for about 5 bucks.
