I popped into PC World (Cardiff) yesterday...what a depressing
experience. You'd think that in a shop full of equipment they'd have the
sense to use mouse mats with all their hardware, but nope....the optical
mouse on the one G5 tower they had there had a PC World leaflet under it.
Try using an optical mouse with that shiny surface or the glass-topped
desks they put all the hardware on :-(
And just how difficult is it to set up some software on a G5 tower so people can see it in all its glory? Rather than half a dozen apps that somebody (probably a customer) has tried running and given up at the setup windows (iChat AV, Mail, etc.).
Grumble....guess who made an effort to start his Christmas shopping yesterday and failed miserably.

I have to admit I'm a bit spoiled when it comes to Mac purchasing as I live just 40 minutes drive from Gordon Harwood's showroom at Alfreton. Not the cheapest supplier, but a good showroom and knowledgeable staff. They've always done me proud, and of course they're also a service centre. So I shall continue using them.
I suppose the only problem you're likely to find buying from them (or any retailer) is that they simply may not have the model you want in stock - they have to balance stock levels with possible sales very carefully. I was asking them once how much notice they got of new models, which of course destroy some of the value of any stock of the old model that they might have. The answer? - 'none'. They hear about them through the same channels as us. So they buy for stock very carefully, especially if a model is getting on a bit.
