Well, I think my ass is covered: a) the system is backed-up regularly to an external Firewire drive via Backup, and b) I've got Apple Care. This last one is the key determinant, I think: if the drive fails Apple Care will replace it, but it won't cover me for a precautionary replacement. So I've probably got to wait until it actually goes.
