Yes - Carbon Cop Cloner to clone your System exactly to the ext HD or install fresh from Cd/DVD. You cant drag n drop X System and get a working copy. I presume this is a firewire HD - you cant boot from USB. I tried a cheap USB/Firewire HD enclosure from eBay (with a HD installed) and it wouldn't boot - nor was the firewire reliable. Works fine via USB - as cheap storage. So there can be chipset issues that affect boot-ability or even firewire function.
