Don't forget that your Mac can set its own date and time automatically.
In OS X go to System Preferences/Date & Time - although I'm not sure
how well it works on dial-up.

Sometimes, when one is busy or in a hurry, one just doesn't notice the
time discrepancy until someone points it out - I've had this happen to
me a few times with my G3 iMac. I have a battery, but have not worked
up the courage to replace the old one; leaving the iMac plugged in
seems to keep the time right and I'm now using my G5 iMac for mail.
