Not sure if this will help or do what you want but if you go to the iTunes
preferences and then advanced tab/icon you can select a box for whether or
not iTunes will copy files to the iTunes music folder physically or just
know where to look for the file (saving you from creating a duplicate in the
iTunes folder). That will get the track into iTunes but you will still be
left with the question of how to deal with the newly created aiff file that
will be huge when you perform the conversion.
