Meanwhile- from what i can gather on the Alsoft web site, it SEEMS to be saying that I can use the old version (2.1) on an OS X partition and it iwll not harm the disk. It does use the words "no matter what operating system". Do you think I can have a go with Disk Warrior 2.1 on my OS X tiger partition?

I haven't used DW for ages (I haven't needed to) but I did use a pre- OS X version on an OS 9/OS X HD without any problems. I think it would be safe to try but it probably won't be as effective as using later versions.
