Hi Kev,

To elaborate on what Dave wrote, for some reason OS X sometimes has problems
with certain firewire products. This was eliminated to a large degree with
10.4.2 but some models are still causing problems or need updates to the
product firmware. Check with your product manufacturer website if there are
firmware upgrades available or check other sites for similar users problems
to see how they overcame it:

Some sites that cover these things well:

<http://www.macfixit.com/>

Especially the oxford bridge chips for firewire are known to have caused
problems in the past.

Just googling quickly produced this report and firewire firmware update for
LaCie drives:

Hope that helps!

P.S. Might I politely ask if you could refrain from using all caps in your
subject lines...I appreciate that you are rather upset about the crashes and
all but this is known as 'shouting' and tends to make people rather
unreceptive to reading let alone helping with such messages. Thanks in
advance!

Richard
