Of course, you want solutions to your pb's slowdown.
:-)
If you have tried tools like Onyx, then your fastest way is format.
You could spent days trying to find the problem. With format you will
lose only 1-2 hours.

I've got one of the original 12" Powerbooks, 867 Mhz, with 640 Mb
RAM. Over the last number of months I've been feeling that
performance has become very sluggish, and I'm wondering what I can
do to improve things. I'm seeing the spinning beachball on a lot of
occasions, and there seem to be long delays in doing most things.
Most I use it for everyday stuff, though I also do some photo work
with Photoshop CS and RAW files out of a Nikon D70. However, I
expect it to be a bit slow on thos occasions. It's the 5-second
delay in switching between two tabs in Safari that I'm more
concerned about...
I ran a simple test this morning. I cleared one or two obvious
things such as the safari cache, closed down Safari and Mail, and
switched it off. Then I rebooted and left it alone for a good 10
minutes so that any background programs that were due to start had
done so. Then I started Safari, from an icon in the Dock. This
resulted in just over 40 bounces before an empty Safari window
opened. I'm sure it used to be faster than that.....
What might be causing this performance slow down? And what can I do
to improve things?
For inf: it's running OX X 10.3.9, and Info on the hard drive says
that its capacity is 37.25GB of which 17.68 is available and 19.57
is used. All the photo images are stored on a pair of LaCie
external Firewire drives.
