The UNIX tools that it uses (since it's really just a graphical front-end to the UNIX maintenance system (among other things)) haven't changed or moved from Panther to Tiger, so I imagine that it'll still work. Let us know how you get on.
Just in passing, how much memory does your laptop report when you go to "About this Mac..." in the Apple menu. A friend of mine had similar problems and discovered that his extra memory stick (i.e. the one that's not soldered in) wasn't being recognised - it had come loose.
