It is possible, but I think that Picasa does the same as iPhoto: i.e. keeps the 
original and saves a modified duplicate of any image that you change. I did 
have it on my machine at work, but something got corrupted and it crashes hard 
enough to make the PC restart whenever I try it these days (not good :o) ) 
Another difference/bonus of Picasa is that it doesn't try to organise your 
images in the same way as iPhoto. It just looks everywhere for images and keeps 
a database of them. I doesn't put them into a single location. 

I found it pretty handy when I was using it to manage images, but after it 
started taking down my machine it had to go.
