Which facts are wrong? Richard Stalman is head of the FSF. Linux Torvalds is the original aithor of the LINUX kernel. LINUX the OS was called LINUX until the FSF/RMS/a third party voiced the opinion it should be called GNU/LINUX.
Linus used Minix to bootstrap LINIX, which happened to use GNU tools. As it was simpler to then continue to use GNU tools, they carried on. The name GNU/LINUX is straight out of the FSF and their supporters mouths. RMS is the voice behind the FSF. Linus is probably the largest "slacker"* in the universe and really didn't care what they called his OS. Read his autobiography if you don't believe me... where all the FSF and GNU/LINUX stuff is well documented from the horses mouth. GNU/HURD is the FSF's official OS. GCC is a GNU product: Apple use GCC to build MacOS X. The only non fact I can see is my opinion (sorry, should have stated it was my opinion) that FSF/RMS insisting that it was called GNU/LINUX is big a publicity boosting exercise for FSF. Finally, LINUX has *never* been refered to as "GNU" alone. Please feel free to inform me if any of the above is fiction... M * meant in an affectionate way. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Zoki" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Mac UK" <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 19, 2005 10:16 AM Subject: Re: GNU/Linux on a Mac [was Re: Newbie G3 Question(s)] *** Matt, With all due respect but you are rewriting history here. You did not only get your facts wrong you also lacking respect to a person - even if you do not like his methods - that has done a lot for the free sofwatere movement. Please spend some more time on Internet to inform yourself, and avoid the Fox News approach. You are not doing yourself a favor. -- Cheers, Zoran. "We are born naked, wet, and hungry.
