Hi,
Googling for DVD Firmware will lead you to a site that offers hacked
firmware. http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php is a good place to start.
Using software update you can identify the exact model of DVD drive
in your mac.
The software needed to reset the region changes back to zero is
called Region X
heres how it all works:
If your drive is designated as RPC1 then you can just use Region X to
reset the number of region changes allowed endlessly.
If your drive is designated as RPC2 then you would need to hack its
firmware with a patch to make it think its RPC1 and then use the
method above to reset the region codes.
The process above is simple enough to complete and I have done this
for all of my RPC2 drives however be aware that should power fail
during a firmware update the drive could be trashed permanently.
If you are not confident about doing this to an internal drive
consider buying an external (http:www.moreforeyourmonkey.co.uk) this
will get you an external case (FW/USB 2.0) for about 29 quid and a
top of the range Pioneer 110 16x burner for 30 quid. I have flashed
this drive with no problems.
Hope that is of some help
