We basically have an increase in 2 coders for the Mac port who have
lots of experience in the ooo code base. It basically means no
significant planable change to the timescales of the aqua port. As it
is difficult to tell how much work there is and how long it will
take, as it isn't common for this kind of port to happen on this kind
of scale.
The first step is to get ooo running on the Mac without X11. It will
look like an aquafied version of the other platforms. After that we
will start working on implementing the Aqua User Interface
Guidelines. This however will take a lot of work, especially when ooo
currently doesn't properly adhere to the Model View Controller (MVC)
design pattern as the GUI code is interweave with the backend logic
instead of being mixed together. This refactoring will need to be
done for the Mac and will help with the general quality of the code
for the other platforms. What happens on the Mac may help usability
on the other Mac platforms.
Also, someone there boldly mentioned that OOo Aqua should exploit
all the Mac's powers, even at the expense of some compatibility
with PC/Linux versions. I heartily concur! OOo Aqua shouldn't be
shackled into a shadow clone of OOo PC by the PC's limitations or
ways of doing things. The Mac's credo is Be Different! Go for
broke! Mac fans will bless you, even if it takes a while longer!
