I'm happy to hear that others have better experiences. Sorry that I
was generalizing this problem for PPC, This belief came from one or
two messages of other users I found somewhere on the net who where
also addressing strong performance issues with 3.0. So because of
that I was convinced that this is a general problem.
To answer your questions:
I'm on the latest version of Tiger with all updates installed.
I tried the current release candidate of 3.0 as well as some
developer builds of the last weeks and the performance issues where
always there.
The startup time of more than one minute is also after the first use
of a fresh installation. I also tried it with deleting the
preferences folder first.
Best regards
Helge

Further, I wonder whether you are still using 10.3, or 10.4?
MacOSX 10.3 is not supported with OpenOffice.org 3.0. Maybe you
meant to say:
MacOSX 10.4 versus 10.5.
ah, I did not realize 10.3 is not supported. And, no, I'm on 10.4. So
perhaps the difference in speed between Helge's experience and
mine is
the dual 1.42's on my computer.
Could be that the dual processors is the difference. I have a
PowerBook G4 with a 1.3GHz processor and 768MB of RAM. I could put
OpenOffice.org 3.0 on it and see how it performs.
