There have been a bunch... Apple has posted a new version of Safari on its website (V.51) that it recommends all users download and use instead of the first release (V.48). Many folks are claiming that it fixes the option-click-to-download bug that some were having problems with. (Personally, I have enough keyboard equivalents to remember that I don't recall ever using this one -- though it is very common across many browsers.) I'm thinking that some of these folks claiming this does fix the problem (Apple does not make any claims yet about this!!!!) are pretty gutsy. The update has not fixed two things I want to see, pause-able downloading and tabbed browsing.
More on Safari updates: 1) Safari Enhancer has been released. This is a very useful utility that allows you to turn on hidden features in Safari like the debug menu (web developers use those kinds of tools) http://gordon.sourcecod.com/sites/safari_enhancer.php 2) Macintouch has a full section devoted to Safari info: http://www.macintouch.com/ 3) Apache, the built in web-server that comes with OS-X was not updated in the most recent OS update to be "Rendevous" compatible (which many thought was an odd oversight on Apple's part). Eric Seidel has released a module for Apache (OS-X version) that tells it to broadcast the Rendevous server name. What does this do for you? Well if you have a LAN, then the browsers connecting to your server can use the Rendevous name, rather than using the http://10.xxx.xx/ name. This comes with an installer so you don't need to find one of those mythical high school kids to come set it up for you. Just run the installer, it takes care of the rest. http://homepage.mac.com/macdomeeu/dev/current/mod_rendezvous/ Jerry | The next meeting of the Louisville Computer Society will | be January 28.
