Honest Cathy, that really does put the info there (10.3 or 10.4). If
you do this in the finder at the desktop level. Setting the finder
preferences will let you decide what show up on the desktop (hard
drives CDs, DVDs, etc.) but you have to set the view options to get
the used and free disk space.
You have more options available if you do this in a folder window
that is i open in the finder.
